Doodle What??

What the heck is a Doodle?

The term "Doodle" refers to a cross between a purebred Poodle and another purebred dog. Doodles are considered a "designer breed" because although they do not participate in Dog Shows and are not recognized by Dog Registries such as AKC, they are bred for a purpose and have grown exponentially in popularity over the past decades. Two of the most successful and desirable Doodle crosses that we've chosen to breed are the Bernedoodle & Aussiedoodle

What makes OUR Doodles special?

You may be wondering... couldn't you "doodle" any dog? And while technically the answer is yes... there's a lot more to it than just Poodle + Dog = Fabulous Puppies. It's important to remember that not every purebred dog is an excellent example of the breed, therefore we are very selective in our breeding choices. The best puppies start with the best parents!

Health is the foundation on which we begin our breeding program. We DNA test each of our Moms and Dads for inherited diseases including Degenerative Myelopathy (DM), Hereditary Cataracts, MDR1, and PRA-PRCD. Doodles also have the benefit of Hybrid Vigor, the tendency of a crossbred individual to show qualities superior to those of both parents. Increasing the genetic diversity of a dog along with testing breeding age adults can drastically reduce the chances of a puppy having congenital hip problems. We guarantee all of our puppies for a full 2 years!

Next on our list of criteria is temperament and intelligence. Poodles are among the top of the list of America's smartest and most popular dog breeds and are known for their loyalty, loving dispositions, and are considered canine Einsteins!  We carefully select only the most even-tempered, sweet-natured, and trainable dogs and puppies for our breeding program.

Next is coat quality. These particular crosses are more successful in early generations because both purebreds involved have soft plush coats. In addition to health, we also DNA test our parents for coat color and quality traits. We are proud to offer a gorgeous variety of colors and markings in our puppies. Coat types can range from wavy to fleecy to curly and depending on generation, have varying degrees of shedding. The generations we breed are very low shedding. Some families report NO noticeable shedding! This makes our puppies very well suited for families with allergy concerns.

Doodle Coats & Generations Explained:

Doodles are adored for their hair and stuffed animal appearance, but there are many different 'types' or generations of Doodles. With each comes different coat types and varying degrees of shedding. It's important to understand what your options are when shopping for a Doodle.

Our “F1s" is the first generation cross between an Australian Shepard and a Poodle (50% x 50%). Because each parent contributes their genetics to the puppies, F1s will inherit 1 copy of the Australian Shepard hair-type along with 1 copy of the Poodle's nonshedding hair-type called "Furnishings" or F. This gives F1 puppies a straight or wavy coat and varies as to their degree but with both of our breeds considered low shedding & allergy-friendly. They will be higher maintenance in terms of grooming. Both breeds have hair not fur so it has no limits on its growth you might find some hair laying around similar to a human's hair breaking off it really depends on the grooming habits you have.

An “F1b” is the cross between an F1 back-(b) to a Poodle (25% x 75% Poodle). This cross produces beautiful coats that vary between wavy and curly. Statistically, 50% of the litter will be F/IC (Furnished/Incomplete) like an F1 but with less shedding, and 50% will be F/F and nearly non-shedding. They require weekly grooming to maintain their soft tangle-free coats and can also be cut and styled in a variety of ways. F1B's are generally very allergy-friendly and recommended for those with moderate allergy concerns.

An "F1bb" is the cross between an F1b Doodle and a Poodle. This cross produces puppies that are over 85% Poodle and when done properly, tend to have curly and non-shedding coats. They are not as popular as the other generations but are an excellent choice for anyone with severe allergy concerns who still prefers a Doodle over a purebred Poodle. We have decided to offer F1bb puppies because this offers the best option for those that want the Doodle look with the lowest chance of shedding.

“Multi-Gen” describes any Doodle that has been bred beyond the F3 generation. Percentages of each breed can vary along with levels of shedding depending on each parent's genetics. Our planned Multi-Gen puppies will still be 25% x 75% Poodle, and the result of selectively breeding and holding back some of our best F3 puppies to further improve the coat, color, conformation, and temperament of our Doodle lines. All puppies will be Furnished and excellent for those with higher allergy concerns.
